I Really Wanted to Like SendFox But…
A Note To The Reader: When I first wrote this blog post it was back in 2020. Since then I have not checked on the updated features that Sendfox has put out and as such this post may be slightly outdated.
For those of you that don't know or are new to this space SendFox is an email marketing platform that is run and affiliated with AppSumo.
I found it after reading Noah Kagans books Million Dollar Weekend (which I highly recommend) and figured I would check it out.
Much like Mailerlite its a very affordable option and what separates it from other email marketing platforms is that it's not subscription based and is a one time fee that you pay for it in order to have access to the full platform. It's very simple and straightforward.
Maybe a little too simple and straightforward.
I will admit I didn't pay for it as I didn't end up really being that intrigued by it overall.
Here's why...
For one, I didn't really like the layout and setup of forms and landing pages.
They had a decent amount of templates but they weren't as customisable as I would have liked and for me I personally like to have a lot of creative input and insight in how everything flows together.
Two, it was a little bit too* basic. Again, like Mailerlite, if you are just starting up and gaining a following and don't have a solid business and platform yet this can absolutely do all you need it to do to get you up and running. But I feel as though there will reach a point where you just feel it's a bit limiting.
And again, like Mailerlite, I also found SendFox to be difficult to integrate and embed into Squarespace. AppSumo in general is typically affiliated with Wordpress and not Squarespace so for those Wordpress users out there that may be a bonus for you. However, I don't use Wordpress anymore and haven't for years and have been a loyal Squarespace subscriber for a while. As such when apps like this don't integrate nicely with it it's a little bothersome so I just avoid it.
I didn’t like that SendFox required you to connect to some kind of blog or written/content platform. Especially since at the time my website/blog wasn’t published yet and was in the works. For me I felt that it didn’t really benefit the platform at all and was more of a hassle then anything to require this in order to use the platform and is something that could potentially be a turn off to many others.
Overall, if you need a quick, very simple, cheap, easy email marketing platform the SendFox is probably for you. But if you plan on selling items online (digital or otherwise) and wanting a more creative interface then SendFox might not be for you.
