3 Ritual Items You Shouldn't Purchase From the Internet
If you hop onto Etsy or even Amazon these days and look for various spiritual ritual items whether is be a cauldron or wand or drum chances are you are going to find 1 or 100 people selling various items for various reasons.
I personally really like Etsy and I've seen everything on Etsy recommended to me from voodoo dolls to wands to shamanic drums to ritual clothing...you name it.
That being said I personally believe that there are certain things in your craft or in just your general spiritual practice that should be more personalised and not just picked up off of Etsy or Amazon to fullfill a specific desire.
There's a few reasons for this but one is that it is my belief that if you take time to actually invest time and research into your craft and into your practice you are going to become more spiritually fulfilled from it. Anyone can go and drop some money and "look" a specific part. Not anyone can actually garner fulfillment from what it is they do everyday or every week to maintain that internal flame inside of them.
I'm here to help you with that internal flame..your spirituality.
And also it's just my experience that sometimes things that are invested in from you personally and created by you personally end up actually working better in the long run.
So lets get into it.
Black Salt
Let's be real, anyone (including myself) can sell black salt. But that doesn't mean you should buy it. Why? Because Black salt is probably one of the easiest things for you to make in bulk and it will in the long run cost you half the amount of money as one of those little trinket bottles that you find at the witch fairs or on Etsy.
Black Salt is also something you can customise somewhat by adding in ashes from burnt incense or herbs or filling it with a specific intent as needed.
This is one of those trinket items that is a quick buck to be made that isn't necessary at the end of the day for you to waste money on. Just go purchase the ingredients and make a large vat of it.
And the good thing is...it doesn't spoil!
Ritual Oils
Now..are there times that I like to go and try out a ritual oil to see how it is or get inspiration for my own craft? Of course. But do I feel it's necessary to go and spend 100 dollars or more on ritual oils when you can make them in your own home most of the time? Absolutely not.
Ritual oils are similar to black salt in that they are typically easier to make than people think and they are often used as a quick buck item in shops.
All of this is especially true if you already dabble in or collect essential oils of any kind as that's typically the base for many ritual oils. So again...take time and have fun with it and make your own. They will be more powerful, have a greater impact (meaning you will need less of it), will be less tainted with other's energy and will be personalised to exactly whatever it is that you are looking for.
You can also find many recipes for various ritual oils online on google or even here in the Mystic Academy so you will never be short on ideas or inspiration.
Book of Shadows/Grimoire
Etsy especially has hundreds if not thousands of sellers that that sell "digital BOS PDF's" or "digital grimoire PDFs" or some variation of the like.
If you are going to be an "aesthetic witch" as I like to call it then by all means spend the 10 bucks and download and print your pretty looking pages.
But at the end of the day the purpose of both of these books is to enhance YOUR craft and YOUR spirituality and YOUR spiritual development and show YOUR journey. Not someone else's. A grimoire or book of shadows isn't meant to be just a nice book with some fancy words and pretty pictures it's supposed to be a log of all that you do. Of your thoughts regarding your spirituality and your practices and meditations and spells or rituals--what has worked and what hasn't and what you wish to try.
And most importantly it's supposed to be related to YOU.
Not someone else.
So while they look nice and have nice "curb appeal" they aren't ultimately going to be that helpful in the long run and they don't journey your journey into your spirit which then begs the question---why are you doing it?
There will always be people who gravitate towards certain aspects of spiritual practices because they enjoy the "aesthetic" of it. This is especially true for the younger crowd who are becoming more and more lost with each decade and have more and more dis-ease within themselves. And while there is nothing wrong with that necessarily it's good to have and understanding of where that stands in your life.
And most likely if you are into spirituality and witchiness and shamanism for the "aesthetic" of it you probably aren't going to be paying money into a program like this.
So don't get caught up in the hype of it outside of here either.
